I've been here for a week. And what an adventure it has been. Here is our home for the next few weeks, Thom. The Dai Ichi Hotel. It is very beautiful and very Japanese. There are 3 restaurants. Last night I ate a caesar salad with a poached egg on top with bits of fried spam and of course I ate it with chopsticks. Tonight I had a tuna rice bowl....it appeared with a tiny quail egg on top. Raw of course. The Japanese are true to their beautiful presentations and here it is no different.
Sunsets. Spectacular. What can I say. And it is hot and humid. 91 today with who knows what kind of humidity. And I love it. The nights are awesome with a cool breeze.
And of course you are familiar with the Japanese's love of vending machines. They are everywhere....everything from cold beer to coffee cans. And some things I can't identify.
We will have fun when we are not working. There is more than what we have time to do. I know it will be an adventure. Waiting for you in this exotic, colorful, sprawling, mysterious island.

Havest moon at Black Rock...
My first night out was at Black Rock Desert. I got on the playa at the same time the sun was setting and the moon was rising. The Harvest moon is the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox, for it to be within hours is very rare, an event that occurs once in about sixty years on average. This one occurred within hours if not minutes of the autumnal equinox,...very rare and very beautiful. Oddly enough it was not as spectacular or as beautiful as the full moon on the first night Jo and I discovered the playa at Black Rock. That was a magical experience to share with Jo. Knowing that she was seeing the same Harvest Moon that I was witness to was a second best but still good.
